National Stationery Week starts in a few days (23rd to 29th April) and if you’re eagerly anticipating it like a kid on Christmas Eve, there’s a good chance you’re a stationery addict.
How can you tell? Do any of these symptoms seem familiar?
1. Free pen? Oh yes!
You get excited any time there’s a free pen on offer. Even though you have roughly fifty trillion pens at home already.
You just can’t pass up the chance to add to your collection, because well, a girl can never have too many pens can she? Plus, it’ll come in handy. Oh, and it’s free. Even better!
2. And you have a favourite
Despite all those pens stacked around your house, there’s one pen you use all the time, while ignoring all the rest (for now at least). It’s just so nice to write with and you’ll be properly sad when the ink runs out. Unless you can refill it, then, happy days!
Bonus points if you also have a favourite pen for doodling or drawing with. Because different pens are good for different things, y’know.
8 signs you're a stationery addict #natstatweek #stationeryaddictClick To Tweet3. Christmas is always a time to top up your stash
Some people like getting jewellery or perfume for Christmas. But not you. Your Christmas stocking ain’t complete unless there are notebooks, stickies and more paper-based goodies sticking out of it.
And any time your friends or family are stuck for present ideas, they know they can always fall back on a good old notebook and you’ll be well chuffed.
4. You have more notebooks than you could ever fill
All those notebooks people give you are starting to stack up. Plus, you know, the ones you buy for yourself.
You just can’t help it; you see a pretty notebook and you have to buy it. And let’s face it, when the time comes to start a new notebook, half the fun is looking through your stash to decide which one to use next.
5. You love making lists
If there’s one thing you love more than a nice new notebook, it’s writing lists in that notebook. To do lists, shopping lists, lists of goals and aspirations, lists of lists… you’re a list-making fiend.
And then comes the most fun part of all: crossing things off your lists as you buy/complete them. It’s so satisfying!
6. You look at new stationery ranges the way other people look at new shoes
Ooh, aren’t they pretty!
Some people love dresses, some love handbags and some go crazy for new shoes. But for you it’s stationery.
You can while away the time just looking at all the new paper-based goodies and planning which ones you’d love to add to your stash.
7. You have a stash of greetings cards, just in case
Wherever you go you spot lovely greetings cards and you just have to buy them.
Some of your favourites have been framed and hung on your walls (hello, affordable art!).
But you have oodles and oodles of them still stashed away ‘cos you never know when you might need a card at short notice. Like if you’ve forgotten someone’s birthday (oh the shame!), need to send a get well soon message or thank you note. Or you just want to send a wee something to cheer up a friend.
8. You know your stationary from your stationery
Stationary and stationery are very different but often confused. However, you know your stuff and wouldn’t dream of spelling it with an ‘a’.
And if you come across someone using the wrong spelling, you delight in reminding them that it’s ‘StationEry, with an E for Envelope’. Easy-peasy.
So, how bad is your addiction?
